Datsun 1200 SCCA GTL Racecar
This is another example of updating
an old racecar. There was no roll cage forward of the firewall. We wanted
to stiffen up the strut towers and give some protection in case we took
a BUMP in the front end. This design helps triangulate the front end
for strength; also helps meet current safety requirements.
Datsun 1200 SCCA GTL Racecar 1970 Datsun 1200 Fastback was an original
west coast built GT-5 SCCA class racecar. The car was always competitive
and has participated at the SCCA runoffs several times. Highly modified
over the years, the car is now undergoing a complete ground up restoration.
The car is built as a semi tube/tub chassis. Car has been updated to
current SCCA GTL class specs. Roll cage has been updated along with
seat mounts and seat belt attachment points. Cage and tub have been
cleaned and freshly painted. Additional bracing added in front tub
section. Chassis has all new sway bar mounts, steering rack and shaft
mounts. Much welding and fabrication work in cage and attachment to
body tub. Body of car is mostly all fiberglass panels and will be finished
in a fresh coat of Viper red paint. Car is set up with a Nissan A12
engine and Nissan Comp. five speed gearbox with a 510 station wagon
rear end. Car has coil over suspension and everything in the suspension
is fully adjustable.
