Datsun 510 H Production Race Car |
|
|

Here are some final pictures of our H production race car. In 2005
we competed in 6 races with out any breakage. WE won 1st in class
every time the car ran on the track. |

Here are some in process pictures from the shop at Thompson-Machine. |

A new dash was constructed out of aluminum then painted flat black.
All new gauges were installed. Critical switches needed to be located
where the driver could reach them while restrained in the safety
harness. Simpson safety gear was used for belts and window net. |
|

New inner fender wells were constructed to seal the trunk to the
large fender flares. It keeps things a lot cleaner especially when
you need to race in the rain. ATL makes an affordable 15-gallon cell
that meets all of SCCA requirements. Also shown is a Fram fuel filter
with a Carter fuel pump. |
 |

After the tub was welded with all the new bars and seat mounts the
car was painted in safety blue. We thought it would give us a good
contrast to yellow exterior. |
|

This yellow 510 was a solo car. It had a solid chassis but was old
and worn. This picture shows the trunk, the fuel cell didn’t
meet current regulations and was pulled to evaluate the car. |
 |

There
was no forward bracing in the roll cage past the firewall. This will
not be acceptable for most sanctioning bodies. We hole sawed thru
the fire wall to align tubes with the strut towers, and then tied
them back to the front cross bar above the legs. Crossbars were also
added to the passenger door opening. The final touch was a new seat
back brace required by SCCA. |
|

We were going to use this as a training car and wanted the seat
adjustable for many different drivers to be comfortable. We used
a Kirkley 5 deg seat and then made adjustable brackets to change
the pitch of the seat. The seat was secured to the slide brackets
on the box tubing. The slide brackets were then pinned at different
locations to accommodate different height drivers |

This picture shows a stripped interior. All seams were welded for
strength. All unnecessary holes from previous owners were repaired
for a clean
looking cockpit |
